This exhibition has been broken up into three categories: Cloth and Fabric, Structure and Object, and Contemporary sub-sections; all of which form the basis of West African design motifs. Though one might assume the study and research of textile designs might only lead to that of various types of cloth, this is not the case. Great thought is given to each subject and object at hand, which in turn is used to but not limited to: igniting conversation, signifying roles and identities, and educating the public. This is achieved through the use of color, pattern, technique, and occasion on which it is worn or displayed. Throughout the tour pay close attention as to how particular designs and patterns play into not only the aesthetic appeal of the specific object itself, but to the given culture and its respective societal expectations or ideals.
